Why was Charles so against her taking the trip?

Does he state?

Been awhile since I seen it, did he give a reason why eh didn't want her to come?

Pretty sure it’s because he has become an Overprotective, overbearing Uncle who doesn’t want anything to happen to his niece after nearly getting her drowned years past.

Thats a good question, I never understood why he didnt.

As @OCT 31 1978 said its very possible he is being an overbearing uncle who cares for his niece.

Didn't he actually try to drown her? It's been a while since I saw the movie.

He pushed her in to teach her how to swim…… he didn’t intentionally want her to drown.

He did state he pulled her out and saved her life, thus acknowledging that he put her in danger. Whether she mentioned seeing Jason while underwater was never explained
